The Lake House cut to the chase review

Mini book reviews read by a real book club on Go Beyond Book Club
From the present-day to the past The Lake House holds the key to unlock a years long tragedy that a young detective on leave of her duties begins a search for answers.  It's 1930's England and a well to-do family with a summer cottage by the lake and a seemingly idyllic life is forever changed when one of their own disappears without a trace during a party. Who was involved?  A nanny?  A relative?  Friends of the family? Author Kate Morton does an excellent job of pulling the reader back and forth into the past and present with detailed characters and a grand finale ending.  The Lake House is a page turner and at under five hundred pages give your book club plenty of time to finish.

How to make The Lake House bookmark:

Choose which color paper you want to use and a ruler to measure a 2.5x8 size bookmark.  Cut them out with the scissors or a paper cutter for straighter lines.  Type out or handwrite your favorite quotes from the book and print.  Use the paper cutter or scissors to cut the slips of paper with your quotes.  Glue one quote onto each bookmark. You can use one favorite quote for all the bookmarks up to you!

Carefully place each bookmark onto the sticky side of the self adhesive sheet.  You can add another sheet on top of the bookmark (preferred method but you will use more sheets)or fold the other half onto the book mark to save from using too many sheets.  Either way this is the tricky part of the process and if not done right you can have too many wrinkles and bubbles from the lamenting sheets.  Once the bookmark is fully encased inside the sheet smooth out the bubbles.  Use scissors to cut off access self adhesive.

Punch a hole at the top, thread your ribbon through and add your beads.  Voila!  You have cute 'The Lake House' bookmarks to give to your book friends.
