True Grit mini book review
Another western read is here! Very similar to our last historical fiction/western 'News of the World', True Grit is a must-read novel chock-full of wild west adventure. Mattie Ross a 14-year-old no-nonsense girl leaves her grieving family back home to track down the man who murdered her father with the help of a hired US Marshall named Rooster Cogburn. Cogburn a crusty, eccentric, straight shooter is hesitant at first to bring along Mattie on the search for the killer but as they set out together with a Texas Ranger named LaBoeuf it is then we as the reader discovers who had 'True Grit' all along.
Author Charles Portis passed away in early 2020 and it was with great honor to be introduced to his work especially during a time when the meaning of True Grit became that more important.
Note* This book club was our second get-together on Zoom due to Covid19 as we are truly thankful to have that platform to continue to discuss and chat away our love for reading. May we gather together soon over dinner and wine.
