Six ways to kill your book club

Is the Grim Reaper knocking on your book club door?

Are your book friends leaving the group? Can't see to keep anyone around for long?  Avoid these six nails in the coffin reasons your reading group no longer exists in true Halloween spirit!

Steps to keeping your book club around for years to come
6 ways to kill your book club the don'ts

Don't show up
 - Yup, never answer the Evite or let anyone know you're not coming. While you are at it don't connect with your book friends or read the books

Don't have any fun - No food, no drinks, no socializing, no book party? Reading is the glue but a fun book club is the cement that will keep your group around for years to come

6 ways to kill your book club the don'ts
Keep choosing the wrong books - Your book friends will have a certain reading style that bonds you together.  Maybe your group wants to read only classics, historical fiction or best sellers. Make sure you are in sync with which genre you all prefer. I can honestly say we've lost a member or two over time because the novel choices were not their cup of tea. Book clubs come in all shapes and sizes so if this group isn't for you by all means start a new one with the genre you like. The more book clubs the merrier! But let's be open to ALL genres. Take it from someone who use to only like fiction, now biographies/nonfiction are on my must read list
6 ways to kill your book club the don'ts

Don't be a book hog - the book club discussion is over and now it's time to come up with your next read. Do you let your friends chime in with ideas or is there only one person picking the book titles?  Let everyone have a voice in the selection or better yet come up with a way that
everyone will be satisfied on how you choose your novels
6 ways to kill your book club the don'ts

Agree to disagree is not your motto - let's get this out now.  It's okay to hate the book pick and of course it's okay to love it. Everyone should be able to share their book feelings and no one should ever be shut down. This is probably the number one book club killer so please be thoughtful of your book friends before it's too late
6 ways to kill your book club the don'ts

Book club what book club?
Meeting too little or too much is not a good recipe.  You want to get together enough so that your group stays frosty but too much and everyone burns out including the hosts.  A good rule of thumb is five to six weeks for a shorter novel and seven to eight weeks for a wee bit longer. Last, make sure whoever is hosting can only host once a year or twice at the most
It's not a mystery book friends, book clubs have a hard time staying together but don't be discouraged!  Just do the opposite and you will have a successful reading group for years to come or maybe not bwahaha...
