Get your holiday book club started today

5 steps to a holiday book club on Book Club Blogger

Step 1
The Honor of Hosting

Hosting a holiday book party may come across as a daunting task but it doesn't have to be that way.  Whoever decides to host will only have to do three things:  serve the main dish, send out the Evite and offer up their home which will already be in decoration mode for the upcoming holidays

Step 2
 Date and Time

Decide a date that is not too close to Christmas.  Early December right after Thanksgiving is best before the hectic holiday activities begin

Step 3
Holiday Reading

It's that one special time of the year to choose a novel that is filled with warmth and holiday spirit.  Your book friends will want and should read a novel that is not too long page wise and heavy on the story. Highly recommended past reads that are all about Christmas or with seasonal scenes: Daddy Long Legs, A Redbird Christmas and of course the tried and true classic A Christmas Carol.  More seasonal choices on Holiday Book Club

Step 4
Plan your festivities

The the gift exchange game is perfect entertainment for your book party. As long as you keep it inexpensive and monetary pressure free.  Before the gift exchange you can warm up with another fun game, the book exchange. Gift wrap a new or gently used book (must be a novel that you would recommend) and play the game like the gift exchange for more info click on holiday book club ideas

Step 5
New year - new books

At the end of your celebration it's time to pick a book for the new year. Remind the group to come with fresh titles to choose from or these must try traditions come every January:
  • Pick a novel from the same author that you all love, (make sure the author has written several books so you have plenty to choose from such as Jane Austen, Kristin Hannah or Kate Morton)
  • Read a winter theme novel - Jane Eyre, The Book Thief, Dr. Zhivago and The Distant Hours
  • Start the new year with a biography/memoir. Reading about amazing people with amazing lives - *A book club recommendation, Upstairs at the White House: My Life with the First Ladies and Half Broke Horses

Merry Christmas book friends and have a
Happy reading new year!
