Your favorite books to movies in theaters everywhere

Grab your popcorn and get ready for the new book to movie releases that are in theaters now!

I think we can all agree most book movie flicks are rarely done well. Chunks of the novel are taken out, characters look completely different then in the book and God forbid, the ending is changed to curry favor to a wider audience.  Any changes in our beloved tomes are taboo for us book lovers so here's hoping these soon to be released book to movies will be done with the book fans in mind,  Hollywood, you have been warned.

Agatha Christie's best seller 'Murder on the Orient Express' (available on Amazon) in theaters November 2017
The Glass Castle out in theaters today catch it before it's gone
A Wrinkle in Time, in theaters March 2018.  Watch your favorite children's book come alive!
The Mountain Between Us
novel
on Amazon.com and the movie in theaters October 2017.

Read them now before it reaches the theaters
  books available on Amazon.com

Ready Player One - Science fiction stuffed with 80's nostalgia out March 30th 2018
All the Bright Places (a book club favorite author and novel of Velva Jean Learns to Drive) in theaters 2018
The Invisible Man - classic science fiction by HG Wells will star Johnny Depp TBA 2018

The Selection by Keira Cass - a romantic dystopia - teen fantasy TBA 2018

The best book to movie adaptation

The Pulitzer Prize  To Kill a Mockingbird and it's Academy Award winning movie was pure film and novel perfection and left the rest of the so called 'book to movies' in the industry dust.  With it's A-list actor Gregory Peck, Robert Duvall's acting debut and the hot Alabama sets, 'To Kill a Mockingbird' was movie magic and is what all book to movies should all strive to be.
Watch Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch in the iconic trial scene

Faithful to the book and the not so faithful
Top novels made into movies

A Room with a View
The Help
The Princess Bride
Jane Eyre (after many renditions this is by far the most faithful production)
Rebecca
The Godfather
Unbroken
The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring to start with

Best mini series and tv series - Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Anne of Green Gables, And Then There Were None, Poldark and finally, Outlander

Oh, how could you?

The Hobbit - With three movies churned out of ONE novel The Hobbit movie series is loosely based on the beloved JRR Tolkien novel and is filled with story lines and characters that are not in the original story.  The only high marks goes to the very talented cast and the magic of director Peter Jackson throughout the films.

Captain Blood - This was one of our favorite book club reads and a classic novel on top of it.  We adored this high seas adventure but the 1930's movie starring Golden Age actors Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland was silly at it's best. These top Hollywood actors of their time could not save this sinking ship of a book to movie. A remake is a must and with today's pirate popularity this can be a film seaworthy of it's novel.

The Count of Monte Cristo -  A popular classic deserves a mini-series of epic proportion you think?  BBC where are you? All The Count of Monte Cristo films that have been made in the past were entertaining to be sure but this hefty page turner (over a thousand pages long!) needs a new, fresh, faithful rendition and we will be waiting with bated breath.

Book Club Movie Field Trip

Get your reading group together and head to the movies! You can do this one or two ways:

1. Choose your book to coincide with the release of the movie so you can see the film right after book club.

2. Whenever the book you've read hits the theaters send out an email with the date, time, and maybe include dinner as well. More ways to go beyond and celebrate books, friends that love to read and of course book club!
